"I'm trying REAL hard to be good!"

We went downtown to the old Depot tonight to visit with Santa. Makenna was so excited she could hardly contain herself. It is so fun this year that she finally "gets" what it is all about. She is so infatuated with Santa, and Daddy and Mommy have been using that to her advantage. We know the number to Santa's "naughty or nice" tip line, and have called him a few times with reports (both good and bad). Its funny when she misbehaves now, because the first thing out of her mouth is "Please don't tell Santa!!".

So, on the car ride to see Santa, we asked Makenna what she was going to say when Santa asked if she has been naughty or nice. She asked "Will Santa know if I'm lying?". LOL! She asked what to say, so it was determined that she would respond with "I'm trying really hard to be good". When asked what she was going to ask Santa to bring her, she said "a new balloon". We advised her that she may want to set her sights just a little bit higher.

Makenna sat with Santa first. She got on his knee and blurted out, "Santa, I'm trying REAL hard to be good!". That got a chuckle. Santa then asked her what she wanted for Christmas, and she told him about wanting a new balloon. He asked if she liked Barbies, and she said "yes". She probably would have said "yes" to just about anything at that point. She was star-struck!

Next was Owen's turn. Now if Makenna was star-struck, Owen was downright mesmerized. He wouldn't take his eyes off Santa. Wasn't scared at all, just intrigued. It was hilarious, and made for some cute pics.

And this is the best we did for a picture of both of them with Santa.

We look forward to your middle-of-the-night visit in a few weeks, Santa!!

Absolutely adorable!!! And as a teacher who has had to explain lying to much older students way to many times, I am VERY impressed that she thought and was concerned that Santa might know she was lying - Keep up the awesome parenting!!
